Particularly engaged in haikai, at the beginning of his career, he interacted with Heika-an （平花庵） group in his hometown Takasaki.  Later he became an ardent pupil of Hōrō（鳳朗）， who was one of the three great haiku poets in the Tempō period.  He himself also taught neighbors haiku in his later years.\n　Most of the records of his cultural activities are preserved in his descendant’s house, ‘The Memorial Library of Yaguchi Tamba （矢口丹波記念文庫）’.  I once compiled these biographical materials and wrote a paper titled “A Biographical Sketch of Yaguchi Issan: Based on the Book Collection of the Yaguchi Family in Yawata, Gumma Prefecture” （THE BULLETIN OF THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF JAPANESE LITERATURE vol. 39 2013・3）.  In order to know what types of people he interacted with in his cultural activities, I referred to materials of the library such as tanzakus （短冊：a strip of paper for writing waka or haiku）, letters, and advertisements for haiku contests.  Throughout the process of analyzing the persons depicted in the materials, the details of Issan’s haikai activity are revealed.\n　The Yaguchi family’s collection consists of about a hundred tanzakus.  After analyzing each writer, this paper describes twenty of them particularly the ones whose biographical records are identifiable.  In light of this, it can be assumed that Issan interacted mainly with the Haikai group of Syunzyū-an which had connections with Shirao （白雄）―Sekihu （碩布）―Itsuen （逸淵）―Saiba （西馬）.  The advertisement for a haiku contest shows that he also used to write tentori-haikai in his later years （tentori-haikai is a type of haikai competition that nominates three most excellent contestants）.\n　Furthermore, there is a letter that suggests Issan’s relationship with Japanese mathematicians.  It was written as a letter of introduction sent from the Gumma Prefecture mathematician Iwai Shigetō（岩井重遠） to Baba Seitō（馬場正統）, a mathematician in Edo.  Baba, under his pseudonym ‘Kinkō（錦江）’, was famous as a teacher of haikai.\n　This paper examines the activities of the local teachers of haikai as a clue to clarify the cultural activities of the northern Kanto villages in the late Edo Period.
