This book, which describes the friendship between an orphan girl Sophie and a giant called BFG (Big Friendly Giant), is dedicated to his late daughter Olivia.  Unusually for Dahl’s children’s fiction, The BFG is highly regarded both by child and adult readers possibly because the good adult character appears to build a healthy relationship with the child protagonist. \n　This work has been made into a movie twice now: the first was Roald Dahl’s The BFG: The Big Friendly Giant (1989), an animated film directed by British animator Brian Cosgrove (1934― ), which was broadcasted on ITV at Christmas that same year; and the second is The BFG (2016), a live-action film directed by Steven Spielberg (1946― ), which was released in the summer of 2016.\n　In this article, these two films are analysed with regard to the portrayal of BFG and other Giants, and the portrayal of other worlds such as the Giant Country or Dream Country, in addition to the description of Frobscottle (a drink in Giant Country), and the relationship between quasi-father and quasi-daughter, making reference to the original illustrated by Quentin Blake (1932― ).
