中世の日本文学において、死、そして救済はどのように捉えられていたのかを世阿弥（生没年一三六三？〜一四四三？）作の能「鵺」を通じて考えた。中世文学における「救済」は、仏教的意味での「往生」として表される。つまり「六道輪廻」という苦しみから抜け出る方策が、「往生」である。世阿弥の時代前後の「修羅能」では、終末部に弔いを頼み、成仏を願う様が描かれる一方で、「鵺」では成仏が約束されてはいない。これは、「鵺」という畜生道の存在が影響していると考察し、作者の世阿弥は、成仏の困難さを描くことで、より観客へ訴える能をつくっていったと結論づけた。 |

In Japanese literature of the Middle Ages, how was death and its relief represented? I thought through a Noh-play “Nue” by Zeami (1363? ～1443?). In medieval literature is expressed as “Ojo” in the meaning of Buddhism. “Ojo” is a way of getting away from the pains known as the “transmigration in the six worlds.” Entering Nirvana is not promised in “Nue”, but I ask for a postlude to mourning with “Shura- Noh” in the times of Zeami, and I describe a state of hope of entering Nirvana. I conseder the influence of the “Hell of Beasts” on “Nue” and conseder that this gave Zeami a stranger means of appealing to audiences by showing the difficulties of entering Nirvana. |
